Worth knowing

What is a stone carpet?

A stone carpet – also known as a resin bound stone floor or natural stone surface – is made from genuine natural stone granules of marble, granite or quartz, bound with a transparent, high-quality resin. The result is a seamless, joint-free surface that can be laid in any shape and in over 100 colour combinations.

Unlike conventional surfaces, a stone surface remains open-pored: rainwater drains straight through it into the ground below. This prevents puddles and ice, relieves the drainage system, and makes the surface frost-resistant and durable – ideal for the Swiss climate, indoors and outdoors.

  • Seamless and joint-free – no seams, no weeds
  • Permeable and frost-resistant
  • Naturally slip-resistant, suitable for wheelchairs and walking frames
  • Can be laid in any shape – curves, bends, sloping ground
  • Low maintenance, UV-stable and colourfast

Frequently asked questions

Questions about stone carpet & natural stone surfaces

How much does a stone carpet cost?

The price depends on the surface area, substrate, grain size and choice of colour. We're happy to view your project on site and prepare a no-obligation quote – calculated transparently per square metre.

Is stone carpet really permeable?

Yes. The open resin bond lets rainwater drain straight through the surface into the ground below. This prevents puddles and ice and relieves the drainage system.

Is a stone surface suitable for the bathroom or kitchen?

Yes – with the right resin formula, the surface is moisture-resistant and hygienic, with no joints for dirt or moisture to collect in.

How long does installation take?

Usually one to a few days, depending on the size. The surface is mixed and laid in a single process and can be walked on again after a short curing time.

Can an existing surface be refurbished?

Often, yes: stone carpet can be installed on top of many existing substrates such as stairs, terraces or balconies – we're happy to check this on site.

How easy is a natural stone floor to maintain?

Very: the closed, joint-free surface can simply be swept, vacuumed or wiped down with a damp mop – no weeds, no joint cleaning.
